Dr. Paul Gausman joined McPherson & Jacobson in 2007.
Dr. Paul Gausman is a retired public-school superintendent with a distinguished 30-year career in educational leadership. He also holds the title of Superintendent Emeritus for Lincoln Public Schools in Nebraska.
Dr. Gausman holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of St. Thomas, an Education Specialist degree from the University of Sioux Falls, a Master’s in Educational Administration from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and a Bachelor’s in Music Education from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Nationally recognized for his impact, Dr. Gausman was a 2018 finalist for National Superintendent of the Year and the 2014 Iowa Superintendent of the Year. In 2021, he was elected President of the Urban Superintendents Association of America.
As Superintendent of Lincoln Public Schools (2022–2024), he led the district through post-pandemic growth, expanded early childhood and career programs, enhanced staff support initiatives, and secured over $2.5 million for student athletics through the LPS Foundation. He partnered closely with the Chamber of Commerce, United Way, and the University of Nebraska, and played a vital role in education policy and legislative collaboration.
Previously, Dr. Gausman served 14 years as superintendent of the Sioux City Community School District, where he drove significant gains in achievement and graduation rates. The district earned “District of Distinction” honors twice and national recognition from the U.S. Department of Education. His work in school safety and bullying prevention received national attention, including his participation in the White House and Tribeca Film Festival following the release of the documentary Bully.
Earlier in his career, Dr. Gausman was superintendent in West Central, SD, an administrator and arts coordinator in Sioux Falls, and a music educator in Nebraska. A performing artist and clinician with Yamaha Corporation of America, he has provided musical and leadership instruction nationwide for over 30 years.
