Darren Tobey joined McPherson & Jacobson L.L.C. in 2019. He currently serves as superintendent of Broken Bow Public Schools in Broken Bow, Nebraska.
Mr. Tobey is a seasoned educational leader with nearly two decades of experience in K–12 administration and policy advocacy. He currently serves as Superintendent of Broken Bow Public Schools in Nebraska and is completing his Doctorate in Leadership in Higher Education at Aspen University (anticipated 2026). He holds an Ed.S. in Educational Administration from Wayne State College, an M.S. in K–12 Education Administration from Chadron State College, and a B.S. in Health/Physical Education from Peru State College.
Darren’s career is marked by strategic leadership, operational excellence, and a deep commitment to student success. He has served as Superintendent of both Broken Bow and Southern Valley Schools and has led transformational initiatives in curriculum, instructional design, digital learning, and community engagement. Under his leadership, districts have broken over 75 academic performance records and improved test scores by over 30% through targeted, data-driven interventions.
Notable achievements include passing a $26.5 million bond for a state-of-the-art Career and Technical Education Center, overseeing the construction of a $1.9 million preschool facility, and improving fiscal sustainability with a $2 million increase in reserves. Darren is a tireless advocate for public education, educator compensation, mental health access, along with efforts—partnering with legislators and stakeholders to shape statewide education priorities.
He has presented at major conferences, including the Nebraska Association of School Boards and the Nebraska Council of School Administrators, and currently chairs the Board of Directors for the Nebraska School Activities Association. As the founder of DT & Associates, Darren consults on superintendent searches, 100-day transition planning, and school culture strategy across the U.S.
His recognitions include being a finalist for NRCSA Superintendent of the Year, Citizen of the Year, and receiving the Nebraska FFA Cornerstone Award. Darren is affiliated with professional organizations such as the Nebraska Council of School Administrators, NASB, and the National Federation of State High School Associations.
