Prior to her retirement in 2006, Ms. Dean worked for five years for the American Association of School Administrators on the staff of The School Administrator magazine.
Additional education experiences include serving as an elementary school teacher in Michigan and more recently as a volunteer in two elementary schools in Virginia specifically with young children who were struggling learners while at the same time working with young gifted children in a Junior Great Books program.
Between her years as a classroom teacher and her work for AASA, Ms. Dean served in a number of volunteer and employment positions where she was able to contribute to the communities in Colorado, South Dakota, Michigan and Virginia where she and her family lived. The skills honed by Ms Dean as a volunteer in the arts, social services and politics contribute to the processes used in superintendent searches today.
